A lot has happened since I last blogged in 2013; I became engaged, then got married, bought a house and recently had a baby (all of which I will share later).
As I start writing again, I haven’t quite decided whether to keep my posts of past or delete them/draft them and start a fresh. I like an unused notebook, it gives me the opportunity to start all neat and tidy again with my best handwriting but at the same time there is something nostalgic at looking back and I like to think I have grown as a person and therefore my writing may have changed or it could be exactly the same and my two years in Marketing helping create a company magazine has done nothing to help me.
Any way we will see.
This morning I heard the most ridiculous thing on the news. I haven’t ranted for ages about something so stupid but today I felt it was needed.
Do you remember when a Call Of Duty was released and other similar games came out around the same time, I think it was about 12-18 months ago. The news must have been slow so they started reporting that crime was on the increase because more people were playing these violent games etc etc. Well today’s report was based around music.
Music has been here before Eminem, Dr. Dre being on the hit list. Apparently according to ‘people’ if you listen to their music you will become involved in drugs, violence and general wrong doing. I don’t agree with this. I am no expert and I do not know why people turn out the way they do but I am pretty sure it isn’t because of a song they listen to … or lets face it young children would be running around thinking they should have portable TV’s on their “tubbies”.
Today’s report though went one step further – people are more likely to get drunk and binge drink because they listen to Katy Perry’s Last Friday Night. Seriously this was a news report. Ignore the fact the USA has closed down due to the government and the fact that the UK government are talking more lies and that other events are happening, lets report on a song that is apparently making people binge drink.
This story annoyed me on two levels. The first being that I didn’t even know there was an undertone to the song about drinking. To me the song is about having a good time on a weekend with your friends, laughing, joking and partying after a LONG week at WORK, SCHOOL, COLLEGE or UNI. You know the time we “let our hair down”. The second thing that annoyed me is that I like Katy Perry, the girl works hard and whilst this song was about having fun she has written other songs that empower people. Katy Perry wrote Firework – one of my favourite songs and whilst the lyrics aren’t shakespeare they do connect to everyone on every level no matter how old or young. This is the feel good anthem. This is the song that says be different and be proud. BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE. So yeah she wrote a song about having a few drinks but that isn’t what she is about and her fans don’t relate to her because of this.
I mean c’mon surely this is a new low. People binge drinking because alcohol is bloody expensive., so when it’s on offer they buy more, when they get paid they go out and have a good time. Does everyone NO. Do people have closer influences like friends, parents, guardians and colleagues that influence them YES. Is it music that does this NO.
What do you think? Do you think songs influence us? I don’t but I guess you got that from this post.
Would love to hear your thoughts.
I am not going to apologise for my lack of writing over the last 9 months as my heart hasn’t truly been with it. You would have read nonsensical words with no meaning, feeling or understanding – I would have just rambled. There is a chance you would have found me uninspiring and dare I say it boring. At time is has felt that all I did/do is work, eat and sleep, but now I think back over the last 9 months and I have actually done quiet a few things and you would have been interested, I know it.
I am back now so there is no longer a need to worry. I have many ideas and things to talk about which should keep you interested over the coming months. You will read things and be like ‘oh yeah, we saw that like 6 months ago’ and that’s fine because the chances are I did too. Now though is the time to remind you of those things and also put them somewhere that can be looked back on in years to come.
I try not to think to far into the future as honestly it scares me. Its my birthday soon (a month or so) and I will be turning 28, something I am not looking forward to but that’s another blog post all together. I would like to think though that in 20 or so years, my blog is still here and my children can read my jumbles of words and be like ‘my mum is awesome’ or potentially ‘my mum is weird/what is this weird typing thing’ (because there is a great possibility that in 20 years everything will be voice recognition and children will not no how to type. Let’s face it in the last 20 years children have forgotten how to put pen to paper and spell). I digress.
Things you have to look forward to over the coming weeks/months depending on my ability to get away from Jigsaw World – yes I am addicted – is as follows:
- Running or lack of
- TV shows/Films/Books
- My adventures – Lake District x 2
- My Top Five Cups – all will become clear
- YouTube Love
- Special Feature 1985 – in line with my birthday
Amongst other things. I hope to see you soon. I really have missed you. I will write off now so I can get my letter in the post to you tonight (ha if only that was the case – a postbox, what’s one of those?).
Coming soon …. a New Blog Post!
That’s right I am back – or will be very shortly. Watch this space!
I am not sure Hiatus is the right word, but I like it so I am using it!
You will notice that this my blog has not been touched since the Christmas Period, I still have my Christmas theme (which I will get round to changing) and a Christmas countdown, I even have a bauble picture. Yes, you could call this neglect or you could just call it January!
January is a no go month for me. I don’t like leaving the house, I can’t (even if I wanted too) spend any money and quite frankly I don’t like the dullness of no Christmas lights. So in true style I hibernate to the best of my abilities. Don’t get me wrong I still work and food shop but that is about it! My TV remote is battered due to the amount of use it gets and my cup is tea stained. Am I painting a good picture?
In turn because of this hibernating, I frankly have nothing to talk/blog about so I have abandoned ship (temporarily) until the hibernation period has ended – we are getting close don’t panic.
To ease me back in gently, my next post will be a picture post :) that way we both get something out of it. You – a post, a glimpse of the last 31days and Me – a post, that requires very little thought into how the English Language fits together in what ‘I like to call’ sentences! (Hehe there is a joke there for Miranda Fans – English comedy/sitcom if not, all will be explained soon)
That leaves me with nothing left to say except stayed tuned!
Oh and is anyone else hibernating? Wishing for spring?
Oh my goodness I must be the worst ‘feature’ blogger ever. I just cannot commit/guarantee/know that I am will be in the frame of mind/right place/right mood to blog. Yesterday’s unfortunate miss was purely down to my boy (we were watching Miranda) and my mood (not great I’ll be honest).
So on the 8th Day of Christmas my true love gave to me: 8 Maids a Milking
or rather Two Maids a Milking in this lovely blog! Check out The All American Turkey Pot Pie looks delicious!
and on the 9th Day of Christmas my true love gave to me: 9 Ladies Dancing
Ok so maybe no 9 ladies dancing – but still pretty awesome! This is one of my favourite flash mobs ever.
Enjoy and hopefully I will see you tomorrow
On the 7th Day of Christmas my true love gave to me… 7 Swans a Swimming.
No I couldn’t find any swans ‘swimming’ and for the observant of you I am 8 hours late in posting this blog, so apologies. I do have for you though this:
the dance scene from The Black Swan. If you haven’t seen this movie you must. I cannot say why because I am not sure myself I just know it is a must see.
Anywways I will see you later for the 8th Day of Christmas! Enjoy.
(Feels weird posting about Christmas when now it feels well and truly over)
